--- A three-goal outburst over a four-minute span in the first
half enabled Anderson University to pick up a 5-0 victory at
Tusculum College in a South Atlantic Conference men's soccer match
at the Niswonger Athletic Complex / Pioneer Field Saturday
afternoon.
Lasse Sohrweide finished with a goal and three assists and Ben
Jones score a pair of second-half goals as the Trojans improved to
9-4-1 overall and 4-2 in the SAC with the win, while the Pioneers
fell to 2-8-3 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Trojans
finished with a 21-8 edge in shots over the Pioneers and had six
different players record at least one point to come away with the
win.
Ryan Messick put Anderson on the board at 13:44 as a long cross by
Zach Denson was headed back in front by Sohrweide to Messick, who
headed home his fourth goal of the season. At 15:18, James Moseley
gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead as a corner kick by Denson was headed
to the goal by Sohrweide, and Moseley tapped home his fifth goal of
the season at the far post.
At 17:46, Sohrweide tallied his eighth goal of the season as he
took a pass from Jones on the break and rifled home a shot to the
far post, giving Anderson a 3-0 lead at intermission.
In the second half, Jones scored his third goal of the year at
58:46 as a square pass from Adrien Moufflet was flicked beautifully
by Sohrweide to Jones on a run, and he found the net to make the
score 4-0. Jones closed out the scoring at 70:33 on a blast from 20
yards out.
Tusculum keeper Andy Goellner made two saves in the match, while
the combination of Lukas Hesse (71 minutes) and Benjamin Pepion (19
minutes) made one save apiece for Anderson.
The Pioneers continue their home schedule with a SAC battle against
Lincoln Memorial University Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
