Men's SOCCER FALLS TO WINGATE 2-0 ON THE ROAD

Box score WINGATE, N.C. --- The Wingate University Men's soccer team opened its South Atlantic Conference schedule with a 2-0 win over Tusculum College on Saturday behind a pair of second half goals.

Wingate (5-1, 1-0 SAC) controlled the run of play for much of the match, outshooting the Pioneers (5-2-1, 1-2 SAC) 20-9 on the night, including an 11-5 margin in the second half. Joey Calandra made five saves for the Bulldogs to post his second clean sheet of the season. Lance Moore (Morristown, Tenn.) stopped six attempts on goal as Andra Shelton (Memphis, Tenn.) took a team-high three shots for the Pioneers.

The match remained scoreless until the opening moments of the 54th minute when Wingate's Luke Mulholland took a cross from Ruy Andrade inside the 18-yard box, and beat the keeper to score the breakthrough and give the Bulldogs the 1-0 advantage. Paulo Brunetto stretched the lead to 2-0 late in the 60th minute with his fourth goal of the season, an unassisted strike.

Tusculum returns to the pitch on Sunday, Oct. 4 when the Pioneers host Newberry College in a conference matchup at Pioneer Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
