LEMMA NETS HAT TRICK, Men's SOCCER SHUTS OUT BREVARD 7-0

Box score GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Senior midfielder Anteneh Lemma (Stockholm, Sweden) recorded the first hat trick of his career and the Tusculum College Men's soccer team scored five goals in the opening 20 minutes on Wednesday afternoon en route to a 7-0 shutout win against Brevard College in South Atlantic Conference play.

Tusculum (5-1-1, 1-1 SAC) controlled the run of play for much of the match, outshooting the Tornados (1-7, 0-2 SAC) 15-12 on the afternoon, including an 8-5 margin in the first half. Goalkeeper Lance Moore (Morristown, Tenn.) made the start and played the first 61 minutes for the Pioneers, making four saves, before Andy Goellner (Denver, Colo.) came in to play the final 29 minutes and stop two attempts on frame.

Lemma led the way for the Pioneers with a career-high three goals, including the match-winner early in the first half. Nick Rich (Kent, England), Andres Jarquin (Guatemala City, Guatemala), and Scott Lucky (Orangevale, Calif.) each had a match-best two assists in the match, while Marc Joseph (Delray Beach, Fla.) added a pair of goals to retain the team lead.

Tusculum opened the scoring early in the fifth minute when Lemma found the back of the net off a lead pass by Jarquin to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 advantage. Senior Phillip Hagen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) widened the margin to 2-0 with his first goal of the season in the eighth minute, heading a free corner by Lucky into the upper 90. Lucky's play led to a third Pioneer goal early in the 11th minute when the senior midfielder curled a free kick into the box, and Joseph redirected it into the bottom corner to put Tusculum up 3-0.

Rich notched both of his assists inside of a minute, setting up Jarquin's third goal of the season midway through the 19th minute before putting Lemma in perfect position to score his second of the match in the 20th minute, which sent the Pioneers into the interval with a 5-0 lead.

Tusculum extended the margin to 6-0 midway through the 50th minute on Joseph's fifth of the season, a well-placed strike inside the near post off a blocked shot by Jarquin. Lemma then added his third goal of the match in the closing moments of the 67th minute off a lead pass by Lucas Paulini (Buenos Aires, Argentina) to equal the final margin of 7-0.

The Pioneers return to the pitch on Saturday when they travel to Wingate, N.C. for a 7 p.m. to resume their SAC schedule.
