PIONEERS CLIMB TO FIFTH IN NCAA II MEN'S SOCER POLL

Tusculum Pioneers KANSAS CITY, Kan. --- The 2008 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament champion Tusculum College men's soccer is ranked fifth in NCAA Division II, climbing two spots in this week's poll announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Tuesday.

Tusculum posted a 3-0 week in the SAC Tournament, including two shutouts, to capture its third tournament championship in the program's history. The Pioneers defeated Catawba 4-1 at Pioneer Field in a quarterfinal match on Wednesday, and then shut out Lincoln Memorial and Wingate over the weekend in Rock Hill, S.C. to claim the tournament title.

This marks the 11th consecutive week the Pioneers have been ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation, and the sixth straight week the black and orange have been a member of the national top 10.

Top-seeded Tusculum hosts the 2008 NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Southeast Regional this weekend on Friday and Sunday at Pioneer Field. Second-seeded Lees-McRae College will play the winner of the first round match between Lander University and Limestone College at 4 p.m. on Friday, with TC squaring off against the victor of Francis Marion University and Carson-Newman College at 7 p.m. The winners of the Friday matches will then play for the region championship on Sunday at 2 p.m.
