Tusculum Men's lacrosse drops 9-8 heart-breaker to Brevard

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Adam Wiedemann scored a pair of fourth quarter goals, including the game-winner with 3:38 remaining as Brevard College edged host Tusculum College 9-8 Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field in South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action.

The Tornados (6-6, 2-4 SAC) trailed 8-7 early in the fourth quarter as TC's Chris Ryan blasted in his 16th goal of the season with 11:19 left in the regulation.

Wiedemann tied the game at 8-8 with his unassisted goal with 7:43 remaining. He followed four minutes later with his team-leading 30th goal of the season, which came on a man-down situation for the Tornados.

Down a goal, the Pioneers (3-6, 2-4 SAC) put together a furious attack as Tusculum got off four shots in the final 1:17, including a pair that were on-frame but stopped by BC goalie Andy Reilly, who finished the game with 18 saves.

Brevard jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but the Pioneers answered with a four-goal outburst of its own to tie the game at 4-4 with 2:49 left in the second quarter. BC's David Buono answered with a goal at the 1:24 mark, but Tusculum's Dallas Wade came up with the equalizer with 18 seconds left in the half to send the teams to the locker room at a 5-5 deadlock.

Tusculum took its first lead of the day 29 seconds into the third quarter when Nade Wade scores his 15th goal of the year for a 6-5 TC advantage.

Anthony Alfonso responded four minutes later with his 22nd goal of 2015 to even the game at 6-6.

TC's Andrew Kransberger scored with 37 seconds left in the period for his 12th goal of the season as the Pioneers carried a 7-6 lead into the final frame.

Tusculum out-shot Brevard by a 48-27 margin and owned a 46-26 advantage in ground balls, including a game-high 10 by Alexander Kleinberg. Kleinberg was also dominant in the faceoff dot as he won 16 of the 20 faceoffs on the day.

Tusculum net-minder Kevin Hagggerty finished the game with eight saves for the Pioneers.

TC returns to action this Friday as the Pioneers travel to Hartsville, South Carolina to take on SAC co-leader Coker College for a 4 p.m. contest.
