The Tusculum College men's lacrosse team was victorious in the
first game in program history, defeating Ohio Valley University
12-10 Saturday afternoon at Stadium Field.
Kellen Asmundson scored five goals, including the first goal in
program history, and Jack Timerson had a goal and three assists as
the Pioneers (1-0) outscored the Fighting Scots (0-1) by a 5-0
margin in the second quarter to break a 2-2 tie.
Kyle Aylesworth had four goals and Adam Dickson scored three times
for Ohio Valley, which used the man-up to cut the Tusculum lead to
9-7 after three quarters. However, the Pioneers never trailed and
got a key insurance goal from Ben Boyd with just under three
minutes left to bring home the win.
Goals from Asmundson and Mitch Chapman were countered by goals from
Aylesworth and Dickson in the first quarter, but the Pioneers took
control in the second quarter as Boyd, David Fernandes, Timerson,
Asmundson and Ezra Cason found the net to send Tusculum to
intermission with a five-goal lead.
Brennan Stothers scored twice for the Fighting Scots during a
five-goal third quarter, but Asmundson countered with a pair of
goals to keep the Tusculum lead at 9-7 entering the final quarter.
Dickson notched a pair of goals in the final frame for the Fighting
Scots, but goals from Asmundson, Steven Raimondi and Boyd preserved
the victory for the Pioneers.
John Perrucci played the first half in goal for the Pioneers, while
Eddie Schoenig II manned the crease for the Pioneers in the second
half.
Tusculum will prepare for the first home game in program history
next Saturday when they host Lees-McRae at Pioneer Field beginning
at 12 noon.
