Pioneers finish 15th at Tennessee River Rumble

LENOIR CITY, Tenn. --- Tusculum University freshman Liam van Deventer carded a two-under par 70 in Tuesday's final round of the Tennessee River Rumble, which was held at the Wind River Golf Course.

The Pioneers posted a team score of 290 in the final round to add to their 54-hole total 889 to finish 15th in the team competition as Tusculum moved up one spot on the leaderboard.

TU's 889 total was the second-lowest 54-hole score for the Pioneers this spring and tied for the eighth-lowest in program history.

Van Deventer's round included a pair of eagles, two birdies, four bogeys and 12 pars as he logged a tournament total 218 to finish in a tie for 27th place. His 54-hole score of 218 is tied for the 14th lowest in school history.

TU teammate Dominic Barron Holden finished 32nd with his tournament tally of 219 including a final round 73.

Nicholas Marchese tied for 61st place with 74-77-75=226, Kyle Engelbert placed 70th with 80-77-72=229 and Derek Mubarak 82nd with 77-79-79=235.

Young Harris led wire-to-wire as the Mountain Lions posted a 29-under par score of 835 including a final round 272 (-16). YHC won by remarkable 24 strokes over runner-up and tournament host Lincoln Memorial (859). Wingate finished third with 863, followed by Carson-Newman and North Georgia who tied for fourth place honors with 864. Erskine was sixth with 868, followed by Anderson (869), Belmont Abbey (871), Queens (871), Barton (873), North Greenville (878), Newberry (882), Lenoir-Rhyne (886), Southern Wesleyan (887), Tusculum (889), LMU B-Team (890), King (910) and Walters State (928).

The Pioneers will begin their preparations for next month's South Atlantic Conference Championship, which will be held Apr. 19-20 at Woodlake Golf Club in Tazewell, Tennessee.
