Pioneers travel to Florida for Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Three freshmen will be making their collegiate debuts this week as the Tusculum University men's golf team travels to St. Augustine, Florida for the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate. The two-day event is being held this coming Monday and Tuesday at St. John's Country Club.

This year's tournament field is expected to once again showcase some of the top NCAA Division II programs in the country.

This week's TU starting five includes junior Mark Healy, senior John Bennett and the rookie trio of Dominic Barron Holden, Isak Holter and Liam van Deventer.

Healy, a native of Cork, Ireland, will be competing in his seventh collegiate tournament with the Pioneers. He posted a 76.50 stroke average last year which included three top-20 finishes including a top-five performance at last year's King Invitational where he posted back-to-back rounds of 70-70=140. He finished tied for fourth at the KU event and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Bennett, a native of Forest City, North Carolina, begins his third season and has qualified for his fourth tournament during his TU career. He posted an 82.00 scoring average last season and played in two events in 2018-19.

Holden, a product of Kendal, England, was a four-time All-County selection at the Rossall School in Lancashire, England. He was a Northern Federation Champion and a Schools National Champion.

Holter, a native of Trondheim, Norway, provides to top-notch international playing experience as a member of the Norwegian Junior Championship team.

Van Deventer, a native of South Africa, was a three-time Golfer of the Year at Woodlands International College and was an All-League selection.

Tusculum finished 18th at last year's Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate with a 54-hole total of 310-323-312=945. Barry University was the team champion with a total of 296-302-297=895.
