Pioneers shoot 282, take day one lead at Tusculum Fall Classic

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team fired a two-under par score of 282 and have the first round lead at the 11th annual Tusculum Fall Classic.  The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at Link Hills Country Club.

The Pioneers, the defending champions of this event, have a six-shot lead over second place Spartanburg Methodist College who posted 288.  Milligan College and Tennessee Wesleyan College share third place with 289, while Catawba College is fifth with 290.  Mars Hill University is sixth with 291, while Walters State College and Lincoln Memorial University B are tied for seventh place with 296.  Lenoir-Rhyne University rounds out the team scoring with 299 and is ninth.

Tusculum senior Cameron Dugger was the low Pioneer on the day as he shot a three-under par 68 and is in sole possession of third place.  Evan Ball of Tennessee Wesleyan and Milligan's Josh Gambrell share the first day lead at 66 (-5).  Garrett Tucker (LMU B), Adam Lumley (Mars Hill) and Hunter Parks (Spartanburg Methodist) each shot 69 (-2) and are tied for fourth place. 

Tusculum senior Taylor Smith carded his third consecutive round of 70 and is tied for seventh place with Ray Gordon of LMU B.  TC's Anthony Bolden shot an even par 71 and is in a five-way tie for ninth place.

TC's Chris Hutson shot 73 and is tied for 17th place, while David Whinery posted a 75 and is tied for 29th.

Four Pioneers were playing as individual competitors including Preston Tucker (74 – T22nd), Hunter Chandley (76 – T35th), Austin Murdock (84 – 50th) and Dylan Scalf (86 – 51st).

Tuesday's final round will begin at 9 a.m. and will be played at Link Hills.
