DADE COUNTY, Fla. --- The Tusculum College
men's golf team carded a team score of 314 in its inaugural round
at the NCAA Super Regional on Monday afternoon. The Pioneers sit in
18th place and Brad Hawkins was TC's low scorer with a three-over
75, which is tied for 38th.
The three-round event is being played at the Lake Jovita Golf
and Country Club (par 72, 7,098 yards) and hosted by Saint Leo
University. Hawkins, an All-SAC first-team standout, birdied four
holes and finished the back nine even par.
Warren Cheney is tied for 63rd after shooting a five-over 77
while Nick Forsberg was two strokes back at 79, which puts him in a
tie for 83rd. Taylor Smith was TC's final scorer with 83 and is
tied for 97th. Chris Hutson shot an 85 and sits in a tie for
100th.
Lynn got off to a blistering start leads the event at -12 with
a total score of 276. Nova Southeastern is the only other team to
shoot under par at -7 (281) and is in second place. Florida
Southern is third (+4, 292) followed by USC Aiken and Limestone
College tied for fourth (+5, 293).
Lynn's Martin Cancino is the individual leader after firing a
66. Oscar Lengden of Nova Southeastern is second with a 68 followed
by Lynn's Elliott Whitley, Lynn's Jose Andres Miranda, Georgia
Southeastern's Hayes Dupree and Columbus State's Robert Mize all
tied for third at 69.
TC will begin the second round at 8:20 a.m. tomorrow morning.
