LOUDON, Tenn. - The Tusculum College men's golf team shot a two-day score of 622 to finished seventh at the Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate, which was hosted by Lincoln Memorial University at the Tennessee National Golf Club.
The Pioneers finished in the middle of the pack in the 15-team field. Tusculum shaved 18 shots off its opening round to fire a 302 on Tuesday.
Junior Brad Hawkins carded 77-73=150 to tie for seventh place for his sixth top-10 finish in his first Tusculum campaign. Senior Warren Cheney tied for 25th place with 78-79=157, while junior Nick Forsberg posted a nine-shot improvement with his final day 75 to shoot 159 for the tournament (T35th). Sophomore Taylor Smith shot 81-84=165 to tie for 56th place. Chris Hutson rebounded after his disqualification in the opening round to post a 75 on Tuesday.
Host Lincoln Memorial won the tournament with a team score of 593, nine shots better than runner-up Dalton State. Brevard finished third at 611, followed by Washburn (617), Carson-Newman (618), Catawba (619), Tusculum, Hillsdale (632), Walters State (635), Taylor (640), Lincoln Memorial B (641), Anderson (646), LMU C (646) and Findlay (657).
LMU's Braden Galyon claimed medalist honors with 70-73=143 to finish four strokes in front of Sean Elliott (Dalton State), Andrew Hall (Carson-Newman) and Matt Hardman (Catawba), who all finished with 147.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday as they compete at the Brevard Invitational in Etowah, North Carolina.
