PINEHURST, N.C. --- Tusculum College senior Dakota Norton captured a share of runner-up honors at the14th annual J. Ralph Hargett Memorial men's golf tournament on Tuesday at The National Golf Club in Pinehurst.

Norton, playing as an individual competitor, finished with a two-day score of 147, including a one-over par 73 on Tuesday to finish in a three-way tie for second place and just one stroke behind tournament medalist Benedict Gebhardt of Wingate (71-75=146).

Norton, a native of Greeneville, Tenn., posted the fourth-best score of Tuesday's final round, while posting the best individual finish of the his collegiate career.

As a team, the Pioneers finished 12th with a team score of 321-328=649. Queens University of Charlotte led wire-to-wire as the Royals posted a 36-hole total of 603, nine shots ahead of runner-up Lincoln Memorial University (612). Host Wingate finished third with 622, while Walters State College placed fourth with 625. Pfeiffer University and Lenoir-Rhyne University tied for fifth place with 628. Catawba College finished seventh with 629, followed by Cape Fear CC (630), Brevard College (631), Mars Hill University (640), University of West Alabama (648) and Tusculum.

Tusculum junior Nick Forsberg tied for 37th place with 77-83=160, while junior Coleman Glick placed 42nd with 80-81=161. Freshman Chris Hutson finished 56th with 166, junior Warren Cheney shot 86-82=168 for 59th and rookie Jake Mendenhall rounded out the scoring with 91-82=173 (64th).

The Pioneers return to action on March 29th when they face Lincoln Memorial in the Tusculum/LMU Match Play event at Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville.
