Pioneers third after day 1 of Tusculum Invitational
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. ---

The Tusculum College golf team is in third place after the opening round of the Tusculum Invitational, played Saturday afternoon at Link Hills Country Club.

The Pioneers shot 291 as a team and are six strokes behind co-leaders Lee and Lincoln Memorial heading into the second and final round on Sunday. Tusculum's "B" team carded a 311 and is currently in 12th place in the field of 18 teams.

Leading the way for the Pioneers was junior Coleman Glick, who matched his season-best score with a one-under-par 70 to put himself in a four-way tie for fifth place through 18 holes. Freshman Chris Hutson carded a 71 and is in a five-way tie for ninth place, and sophomore Nick Forsberg turned in a 73 to stand in a tie for 18th place entering Sunday's action.

Rounding out the lineup for the Pioneers are freshman Taylor Smith, who shot 77 and is in a tie for 42nd place, along with senior Dakota Norton who is tied for 48th place after shooting 78 on Saturday.

The Pioneer "B" team was led by junior Warren Cheney who turned in a 73 to position himself in a tie for 18th with Forsberg and others. Freshman Jake Mendenhall recorded a 74 and is tied for 24th place, junior Leif Ratliff posted a round of 81 and is tied for 68th place, and sophomore Samuel Davis fired an 83 for a tie for 78th place in the field of 96 golfers.

George Duncan of Lincoln Memorial's "B" team had the low round of the day with a three-under 68, followed by Michael Dague of Urbana, Hunter Vest of Lee and Rand Wasson of LMU at two-under 69. Sunday's final round will tee off at 9 a.m. at Link Hills.
