SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum men's golf team POSTED a two-day score of 643 to finish in 17th place at the 2014 Richard Rendleman Invitational. The 36-hole tournament was held at the Country Club of Salisbury and hosted by Catawba College.
Tusculum fired a final round 309, improving by 25 strokes from Monday's 334.
Limestone captured the team title, winning in a playoff over runner-up UNC Pembroke. Limestone and UNCP were tied at the end of the final round at 598. Coker finished third with 600, followed by King (613) and Wingate (614). Belmont Abbey, Erskine and Lenoir-Rhyne finished in a three-way tie for seventh place at 616. North Greenville was 10th with 617, followed by Brevard (620), Lincoln Memorial (622), Carson-Newman (622), Catawba (628), Pfeiffer (640), Anderson (641), Tusculum and Post University (663).
Wingate's Benedict Gebhardt fired a two-under par 69 on Tuesday to finish with a two-round score of 142 to force a playoff with first round leader Alex Weare of Queens University of Charlotte. Gebhardt won medalist honors on the first playoff hole with an eight-foot par putt.
Tusculum freshman Chris Hutson was the top Pioneer finisher as he tied for 46th place with 81-76=157. Sophomore Nick Forsberg carded the best round for TC on Tuesday with his 75 to finish with 159 and tie for 55th. Junior Coleman Glick tied for 70th with his 83-81=164, while rookie Jake Mendenhall shot 88-77=165 for 74th place. Junior Warren Cheney rounded out the score for Tusculum with 86-81=167 (T80th).
The Pioneers return to action this weekend when they host the 21st annual Tusculum College Invitational at Link Hills Country Club. The tournament begins on Saturday morning.
