Tusculum finishes tied for 15th at Kiawah Island Invitational

The Tusculum College men's golf team wrapped up play Tuesday at the two-day Kiawah Island Invitational, hosted at the Cougar Point Golf Club by USC Aiken.

The Pioneers finished tied for 15th in the field with a 36-hole team total of 615, following a round of 314 on Tuesday. Conditions were not favorable for scoring on Tuesday, as North Georgia was the only team to improve upon its score from Monday.

Junior Warren Cheney was the top finisher for the Pioneers, turning in a second-round total of 80 and a two-day score of 152 which tied him for 40th with six other players.

Three of Tusculum's five players finished in a tie for 59th place with a total of 155. Sophomore Nick Forsberg had the team's low round on Tuesday with a 76, and was joined at 155 by junior Coleman Glick who shot 79 and senior Dakota Norton who fired an 81.

Junior Leif Ratliff knocked three strokes off his opening-round total with a 79 and finished in a tie for 81st place at 161.

11th-ranked North Alabama (580) won the team title by one stroke over 6th-ranked USC Aiken (581), thanks to a round of 298 that was one shot better than the Pacers' 299 on Tuesday. Flagler took third place at 584 while No. 20 Armstrong, which had the lead after day one, ballooned to 312 and finished tied for fourth with Mount Olive at 589.

Sixth place went to Erskine (590) followed by Limestone and 16th-ranked Georgia College in a tie for seventh at 591. Carson-Newman took ninth at 594, with St. Leo and Coker tied for 10th at 597. Newberry (609), 21st-ranked Belmont Abbey (612), King (613), North Georgia and Tusculum (615) and Georgia Southwestern (624) rounded out the field.

Conner Godsey of North Alabama was the only player to break 70 in both rounds, carding consecutive three-under-par scores of 69 to finish at 138 and win the individual title by four strokes over Brandon Robinson-Thompson of USC Aiken and Sebastian Andersen of Mount Olive.

The Pioneers will be home at Link Hills Country Club next Monday and Tuesday for the Tusculum Fall Classic.
