MORRISTOWN, Tenn. --- Tusculum's Warren Cheney captured medalist honors on the seventh playoff hole to win the 2012 Walters State Fall Classic, Tuesday at the Country Club, Inc. in Morristown.

Cheney fired a two-under par 34 in the nine-hole final round to win his first collegiate title and rallying the Pioneers to a two-stroke victory over Tennessee Wesleyan in the team competition.

Tusculum erased a seven-shot deficit with a final day 151 in the rain-abbreviated tournament that was shortened to 27 holes due to inclement weather. TC finished with 308-151=459, two shots better than runner-up Tennessee Wesleyan (461). Pfeiffer posted a 27-hole score of 468 to finish third, followed by Walters State Blue (473), Lincoln Memorial (474) and Walters State White (499).

Cheney rallied from six shots back to first round leader Cody Godfrey with a score of 112. The two would decide the individual crown with a sudden-death playoff, which lasted an additional seven holes. Cheney scored a par on the seventh playoff hole to earn the medalist title.

TC's Nick Forsberg finished tied for fourth with 74-40=114, while Dakota Norton finished 14th with 80-38=118. Nick York posted 83-39=122 to finish 22nd, while Leif Ratliff tied for 26th place with 76-48=124.

The Pioneers end their fall season on a strong note as TC finished third or better in its final three events.

Tusculum returns to action Feb. 11-12 when the Pioneers travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to play in the Lincoln Memorial Spring Invitational.
