Pioneers, York in seventh place at SAC Men's Golf Championship

CONOVER, N.C. --- Nick York and the Tusculum College men's golf team are both in seventh place following day one of the 2012 South Atlantic Conference Championship. The 10-team, 54-hole tournament is being conducted on the Jones Course of the Rock Barn Golf & Spa.

Tusculum fired rounds of 316 and 308 for 624 and is in sole possession of seventh place.

York posted rounds of 74 and 75 for 149 which is tied for seventh place and nine shots off the pace set by tournament leader Matthew Campbell of Newberry with 69-71=140 (-4).

Wingate has set the pace through 36 holes with its 292-284=576 as the Bulldogs posted four of the best five scores of the day. Newberry is in second with 603 and is 27 shots behind Wingate. Carson-Newman, Lincoln Memorial and Anderson are locked in a three-way tie for third with 615. Lenoir-Rhyne is sixth with 617, followed by Tusculum, Brevard (630), Catawba (631) and Mars Hill (700).

Derek Cantrell is tied for 20th place with 79-76=155 while Justin Harvey carded 81-78=159. Warren Cheney is 41st with 87-79=166, while David Talley is 42nd with 82-85=167.

The final round of the 54-hole event will be played on Tuesday.
