Pioneers repeat as Tusculum Invitational Champions

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team posted a final round 282 to finish with a two-under par score of 566 to win the 19th annual Tusculum Invitational. The Pioneers win the event for a second straight year and sixth time overall. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the par 71, 6,763-yard Link Hills Country Club.

Tusculum placed three golfers in the top four and five in the top 10 as the Pioneers capture their second team title of the season. TC's 566 is the third lowest 36-hole score in school history and is the lowest two-round tally by a Pioneer team in the history of the Tusculum Invitational.

Tusculum won the team title by five shots over tournament runner-up Wingate (571). Lincoln Memorial finished third with 587, including Sunday's final round 288. Walters State placed fourth with 589, followed by King (593), Tiffin (594), Limestone (595), Tennessee Wesleyan (598), Anderson (599), Catawba (604), Spartanburg Methodist (605), USC Lancaster (607), Tri-County Tech (609), Marian (617), Brevard (619), Bluefield State (624), Virginia Intermont (629) and Mars Hill (662).

Wingate's Antoine LeSaux won medalist honors as he fired a four-under round of 67 on Sunday to post 138 (-4) and win by two shots over Tusculum's Justin Harvey, who finished runner-up with 69-71=140 (-2). LeSaux went out in 30, including birdies on his first three holes.

Tusculum's Nick York tallied a one-under par 70 to finish with 141 and sole possession of third place. Wingate's Brian Denton, Tiffin's Blake DeBruyn and TC's David Talley, all finished in a three-way tie for fourth place with 142. DeBruyn and Denton broke the tie for fourth and fifth place via a scorecard playoff to round out the All-Tournament Team.

Tusculum's Derek Cantrell and Warren Cheney both finished with 144 to tie for 10th place in the 99-player field.

Playing as individual competitors, TC's Leif Ratliff posted consecutive 75's to shoot 150 and tie for 33rd place. Coleman Glick was 40th with 74-78=152, while Matt Poff carded a 76-78=154 to finish 53rd. Rounding out the TC individual scoring was Dakota Norton, who tallied a 77-80=157 and finish 71st.

Tusculum returns to action March 19-20 at the Pinehurst Challenge, which will be hosted by Wingate University at The National Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C.
