GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College's Nick York and Derek Cantrell each fired an opening round 68 as the Pioneers posted a team score of 283 and lead after day one of the 2011 Tusculum Fall Classic. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the par 71, 6,763-yard Link Hills Country Club.

Tusculum owns a three-shot lead over Tennessee Wesleyan, who carded a 286, led by first-round leader Cody Godrey's four-under par 67. Lincoln Memorial is four shots off the lead with 287 and is in third place. LMU placed two golfers in the top five, including Jamie Chapman (68) and Eric Kennedy (70).

Spartanburg Methodist and Coker are tied for fourth with 291, while Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba each shot 292 and are tied for sixth place. Brevard is eighth with 295, followed by Walters State (296), Mars Hill (298), North Greenville (300) and Limestone (302).

There is a three-way tie for fifth place with 70 (-1) in the individual medalist race, including Kennedy, Brad Cline (Catawba), Tom Rennie (Brevard), Wesley Farris (Tennessee Wesleyan) and LMU's Tyler Davis, playing as an individual competitor.

Tusculum freshman Warren Cheney is tied for 18th place with 73, while Dakota Norton posted a 74 and is tied for 28th place. David Talley is tied for 47th with 76. Matt Poff and Leif Ratliff each shot 75 and are tied for 35th place, playing as individual competitors. Also playing as an individual are TC's Justin Harvey and Coleman Glick, who each posted 76 and are tied for 47th.

Tusculum also leads the women's portion of the tournament as they fired a school-record 301. The Pioneers lead the combined championship with a school score of 584, seven shots better than Lincoln Memorial (601), last year's combined champion. Catawba is third with 619, followed by Coker (629), Limestone (634), North Greenville (640), Brevard (650), Spartanburg Methodist (650) and Mars Hill (662).

The Tusculum men are in quest of their fifth Fall Classic title. TC won the title in each of the event's first four years. Limestone ended that streak last season. Tusculum is also vying for its fourth combined FOR championship as well.

The final round will be played on Tuesday morning, starting at 8:20 a.m.
