Final round of State Amateur Golf Championship cancelled

CORDOVA, Tenn. --- The fourth and final round of the 96th annual Tennessee State Amateur Golf Championship was suspended due to lightning on Friday, shortening this year's tournament to 54 holes.

Three members of the Tusculum College men's golf team wrapped up this week's play at the Colonial Country Club South Course, including the junior trio of Nick York, Derek Cantrell and David Talley.

York, a Kingsport, Tenn. product, finished tied for 56th place with 237 (+21), while Cantrell (Knoxville, Tenn./Halls HS) and Talley (Bristol, Va./Virginia HS) each finished at 238 to tie for 58th place.

Play was suspended at 10:26 a.m. CDT and never resumed on Friday. The final round was ultimately cancelled at 3:30 p.m. CDT and third round leader Bobby Hudson was declared the champion. Hudson becomes the 13th player to win multiple Tennessee Amateur Championships as he also won the 2007 event at Belle Meade Country Club.

The Tennessee Amateur Championship is one of 15 state championships that the Tennessee Golf Association conducts on an annual basis.
