CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team won its fourth tournament of the 2010-11 season with a one-stroke victory at the J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate tournament, hosted by Wingate University at Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation Tuesday. The tournament was shortened from 36 holes to 18 holes due to heavy rain on Monday which canceled the first round.
The Pioneers shot 295 as a team to edge the Bulldogs by one stroke, with fellow South Atlantic Conference schools Anderson (302), Catawba (306) and Lenoir-Rhyne (312) claiming the next three spots in the team standings. Pfeiffer and Spartanburg Methodist also tied for fifth at 312, followed by King (317), USC Lancaster (320), Wingate B (328), Brevard (331) and Johnson C. Smith (446).
Individually, Justin Harvey finished second with a round of one-under-par 71, two shots behind medalist Clifford Banquicet of Wingate. David Talley tied for third place with a 72, Luke Fullen was in sole possession of 11th place with a 75, Nick York tied for 16th place at 77, and Derek Cantrell shot an 82 to tie for 40th place.
The Pioneers will compete at the SAC Championships at the Rock Barn Golf Resort in Conover, N.C. on April 11-12.
