SALISBURY, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team fired an opening round 300 and is in eighth place at the 2011 Richard Rendleman Invitational held at the Country Club of Salisbury.

UNC Pembroke and Queens University of Charlotte hold the first round lead after posting rounds of 292. Belmont Abbey and Carson-Newman are third at 295, while Pfeiffer and Newberry each shot 296 and are tied for fifth place. Lincoln Memorial is seventh with 297, followed by Tusculum, Findlay (303), Grand Valley State (305) host Catawba (305), Lenoir-Rhyne (307), North Greenville (309), Limestone (312), Wingate (313), Mars Hill (315) and King (321).

Carson-Newman's Gavin Hay has the first round lead with his three-under par 68 on Monday.

Tusculum's Nick York shot three-over par 74 and is tied for 20th place. David Talley and Luke Fullen each shot 75 and are tied for 24th, while Derek Cantrell is 32nd with 76. Justin Harvey tallied a 77 and is tied for 43rd place, while Lawson George is tied for 56th with his 79, competing as an individual competitor.

The final round of the 36-hole tournament will be held Tuesday on the par 71, 6,665-yard layout.
