Pioneers finish fourth at SAC Men's Golf Championship

ETOWAH, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team carded a three-round total of 903 to finish fourth at the 2010 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship, Tuesday at the Etowah Valley Country Club & Resort.

After shooting 308 in its opening round yesterday, TC completed its second round by posting 295, which was the second lowest score of the second 18 holes. The Pioneers finished today's final round with 300.

Tusculum rookie Nick York led the charge for the Pioneers, tying for sixth place with his 54-hole tally of 221, including his three-under par 69 in the second round, the lowest 18-hole score of the tournament. By finishing in the top 10, York earned a spot on the SAC All-Tournament team.

Juniors Luke Fullen and Lawson George each fired 223 to finish tied for 13th place. Fullen posted an even par 72 in the final round, while George posted 73. Freshman David Talley finished 31st with 79-77-80=236, while senior Glenn Vicary capped his collegiate career finishing tied for 42nd place with 80-81-87=248.

Lincoln Memorial University captured its first-ever SAC Championship, shooting 873, winning by 14 shots over second place Newberry College (887). By winning the championship, LMU also earns the league's automatic bid to next month's NCAA Division II Tournament.

Wingate University finished third with 899, followed by Tusculum, Carson-Newman College (906), Lenoir-Rhyne University (910), Brevard College (922), Catawba College (927) and Mars Hill College (948).
