ELIZABETHTOWN, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team carded an opening round of 294 at the Carolina Sands Intercollegiate on Friday to finish the day tied for third in the 17-team field at the Carolina Sands Golf Course.

Coker College shot a combined 281 in the opening round to lead the team competition, heading into Saturday's final round with a six-shot advantage over host UNC Pembroke's first-day total of 287. Tusculum and St. Andrews Presbyterian College are tied for third at 294, followed by Mount Olive College (297), Lindenwood University (298), Southern Wesleyan University (299), Lindenwood's B team (300), Erskine College (300), and Newberry College (301).

Freshman Nick York carded an even-par 72 to tie for 11th place after the first round, while Luke Fullen (73) and Lawson George (74) are tied for 18th and 22nd, respectively. Matt Poff posted a first round of 75 to tie for 30th as Will Loggins carded a 76 to tie for 43rd.

The final round will be played on Saturday at the Carolina Sands Golf Course in White Lake, N.C.
