GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Lenoir-Rhyne men's golf team posted a six-under par team score of 278 and lead following the opening round of the 17th annual Tusculum College Invitational. The two-day, 36-hole tournament is being held at the 6,763-yard, par 71 Link Hills Country Club.

Lenoir-Rhyne's 278 is three shots off a tournament record as the Bears lead by five shots over second place Tusculum "Orange" as the host Pioneers posted a one-under par 283. Catawba is third with 285, while Findlay shot 290 and is in fourth. Walters State and USC Lancaster are tied for fifth with 293, while Limestone is seventh at 294. Lincoln Memorial and Anderson (S.C.) are tied for eight with 296, followed by Tennessee Wesleyan (301) and Mars Hill (302), who are 10th and 11th, respectively. Tusculum "Black" and Tri-County College are tied for 12th with 304, followed by Spartanburg Methodist (305), Virginia Intermont (307), Brevard (309) and Tiffin (318) to round out the 17-team tournament field.

Ten players in the tournament field shot below par led by first round co-leaders Trevor Banks of USC Lancaster and Lenoir-Rhyne's Brandon Squier as both carded three-under 68. Six players shot 69 (-2) and are tied for third place, including: Tusculum's Glenn Vicary and Luke Fullen. The Catawba duo of Brad Cline and Eric Schmehl also sit at two-under, while Mars Hill's Ryan Moore also shot 69. Rob Golden (Lenoir-Rhyne) and Justin Watren (Findlay) each carded 70 (-1) and are tied for ninth.

Tusculum's Lawson George is in a six way tie for 11th place as he fired 71 and is three shots off the lead. Houston White tallied 74 and is tied for 35th to round out the scores for Tusculum Orange.

Derek Cantrell led Tusculum Black with his 73, which is tied for 26th place. Will Loggins and Matt McIntyre each shot 76 to tie for 48th place, while Matt Poff (79 - T74th) and Justin Harvey (80 - T79) rounded out the scoring for the Pioneers.

The final round will be place on Sunday morning, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Link Hills Country Club.
