Tusculum Men's Golf  Opens Spring Season in Florida

PANAMA CITY, Fla. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team returns to action this week as they travel to Panama City, Fla. to take part in the Outback Steakhouse Invitational to open the spring portion of its schedule. The opening round of the 36-hole tournament will begin on Monday, followed by Tuesday's final round.

In the fall, the Pioneers recorded three top five team performances, including a first place finish at the Tusculum Fall Classic. TC also placed third at the Lincoln Memorial University Fall Invitational and fifth at the Anderson University Invitational.

Leading the way for the Pioneers is the talented freshmen duo of David Talley and Nick York. Talley, a product of Bristol, Va., led the team this past fall with a 72.75 stroke average. He posted three top 10, finishes including a pair of first place finishes at the Tusculum Fall Classic and the LMU Fall Invitational.

York, a native of Kingsport, Tenn., has accounted for three top-25 finishes so far this year, to go along with his 74.88 scoring average, which is second on the team. He finished tied for seventh at LMU Invitational.

Junior Luke Fullen has posted a stroke average of 75.50, so far this season and has three top-25 finishes. His best finish came at the Tusculum Classic, where he tied for 10th.

Seniors Matt McIntyre, Glenn Vicary and Will Loggins are all heading down the home-stretch of their respective collegiate careers. McIntyre, a native of Greeneville, Tenn., has recorded a 76.25 stroke average, which is fourth on the team.

Vicary, an Oak Ridge, Tenn. product, finished tied for fifth at the Tusculum Classic, while tallying a 77.38 scoring average.

Loggins, 6-2 165-pound native of Crossville, Tenn., has a stroke average of 78.50 this season and finished tied for 28th at the Tusculum Classic.

Junior Lawson George recorded an 82.50 stroke average last fall. The Knoxville, Tenn. native finished tied for 28th at this year's Tusculum Classic.

Matt Poff, a sophomore from Floyd, Va., is fifth on the squad so far this season with a 77.00 stroke average. His best finish coming at coming at the Tusculum College Fall Classic where he tied for 36th place.

Derek Cantrell, a freshman from of Knoxville, Tenn., placed tied for tenth in his lone action this fall at the Tusculum College Fall Invitational. He is averaging 72.50 strokes.

Justin Harvey, a 5-7 sophomore from Kingsport, Tenn. finished tied for 55th in his lone action this fall at the Tusculum Invitational. He has a stroke average of 79.50.

Atlanta, Ga. junior Houston White returns to the Tusculum squad this spring, as he finished 30th at last year's South Atlantic Conference championship.

Following their Florida trip, the Pioneers will have a month to prepare for the Richard Rendleman Invitational in Salisbury, N.C., Mar. 1-2. TC will return to action Mar. 6-7 as they host the Tusculum Invitational at Link Hills Country Club. TC will face Lincoln Memorial in the Tusculum/LMU Match Play on Mar. 27 in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Pioneers travel to White Lake, N.C. for the Carolina Sands Invitational (Apr. 2-3), prior to the 2010 Food Lion SAC Championship, Apr. 19-20, in Etowah, N.C. for a second straight year.

The NCAA Division II Super Regional will be hosted by Barton College in Wilson, N.C. (May 3-5), followed by the NCAA II National Championship (May 18-21) in Noblesville, Ind.
