Talley Wins in Playoff, Tusculum Places Third at LMU Fall Invitational

David Talley TAZEWELL, Tenn. --- Tusculum freshman David Talley buried a 20-foot eagle putt on the first playoff hole to capture medalist honors at the Lincoln Memorial Fall Invitational on Tuesday at Woodlake Golf Course. Talley, a Bristol, Va. native, wins his second tournament of his young career, while the Pioneers finished third in the 13-team tournament.

Talley and LMU's Eric Kennedy each posted a two-day 140, including identical one-under par scores of 71 in Tuesday's final round. On the opening playoff hole, Kennedy had already holed out his birdie putt on the par five, first hole. Talley answered with the winning putt for only the second eagle of the week on the 525-yard opening hole.

The host Railsplitters won the team title in a playoff against North Greenville as the two teams finished with 576. Tusculum was third with 580 thanks to back-to-back rounds of 290. Catawba finished fourth with 585, followed by Tennessee Wesleyan (587), Lenoir-Rhyne (598), Limestone (601), LMU Gray (601), King (609), Walters State (615), Brevard (620), Mars Hill (637) and Young Harris (638).

Tusculum rookie Nick York tied for seventh with 143, including Tuesday's three-under par 69. Greeneville, Tenn. native Luke Fullen posted a 71-74=145 to tie for 12th, while senior Matt McIntyre (Greeneville, Tenn.) finished 31st with 73-79=152, playing as an individual competitor.

TC senior Glenn Vicary tied for 40th place with his 76-79=155, while sophomore Matt Poff posted 80-76=156 to finish 45th.

The Pioneers wrap up the fall portion of its schedule. Tusculum will be back in action Feb. 1-2, 2010 as the team travels to Panama City, Fla. for the Outback Steakhouse Invitational.
