PONTE VERDE BEACH, Fla. --- The Tusculum College Men's golf team fired a second day 314 and finished 17th at the Queens University of Charlotte Invitational, held this week at the TPC Sawgrass Valley Course. The Pioneers posted consecutive rounds of 314 to finish with 628.
First round leader Barton withstood a furious charge by Florida Southern to claim the team with 576. The Bulldogs carded back-to-back rounds of 288 to finish with 576, five shots better the Florida Southern (581) as the Mocs tallied an eight-under par 280 on Tuesday. FSC was paced by tournament medalist Matt Stauch as he finished with 73-67=140, one shot ahead of Flagler's Chris Bray (70-71=141).
Tusculum rookie David Talley posted consecutive rounds of 77 to shoot 154 and tied for 50th place. Nick York tied for 55th with 74-81=155, while Luke Fullen knocked a dozen shots off his opening round score with a one-under par 73 on Tuesday. Glenn Vicary tied for 79th with 78-83=161, while Lawson George posted 85-94=179 to finish 89th.
Flagler finished third in the team competition with 586, followed by Belmont Abbey (587), Abilene Christian (588), Midwestern State (590), Lander (591), Queens (594), Mount Olive (601), Georgia Southwestern (604), St. Andrews (606), Carson-Newman (607), Armstrong Atlantic (609), Anderson (609), Wingate (621), Catawba (625) and Tusculum.
The Pioneers will compete at the Lincoln Memorial University Invitational next Monday and Tuesday in Tazewell, Tenn.
