GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College
Men's golf team begins their fall season Monday as they travel to
Anderson, S.C. to take part in the Anderson Invitational. Head
coach Bob Dibble returns six lettermen from last
season's squad that won three tournaments and finished fourth at
the South Atlantic Conference Championship.
Leading the way for the Pioneers is Knoxville, Tenn. native
Lawson George. George comes into this season with
the third lowest stroke average in school history. Last year, he
finished second on the team with his 75.30 scoring average which is
the eighth lowest in school history. He also posted eight top-25
finishes.
Seniors Glenn Vicary, Will Loggins, and
Matt McIntyre come back for their final seasons
for the Pioneers. Vicary, a native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., played in
four events posting a scoring average of 77.50. He also had two
top-25 finishes on the season.
Loggins, a native of Crossville, Tenn., played in five events,
finishing with a 78.00 stroke average and tied for 20th place at
the Tusculum Invitational last spring.
McIntyre, a native of Greeneville, Tenn. played in five matches
tallying a 79.33 stroke average. He tied for 22nd at the Tusculum
Fall Classic and enters his senior year with the 17th lowest
scoring average in school history (78.16).
Sophomores Justin Harvey (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Matt Poff (Floyd, Va.) are the remaining returning
players from last year's squad.
The Pioneers add four newcomers to the roster this season
including Luke Fullen, David
Cantrell, David Talley, and Nick
York. Fullen, a native of Greeneville, Tenn., transfers to
Tusculum from Walters State Community College. While at Walters
State, Fullen was a Ping Second team All-American last season.
Cantrell, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., played his prep golf at
Halls High School, where he earned All-Region honors. He lettered
four years in golf, while also seeing action on the Halls
basketball team.
Talley, a graduate from Virginia High School in Bristol, Va.,
garnered All-Region and All-State honors while leading his time to
a District and Regional Championship.
York, a native of Kingsport, Tenn., lettered in golf at Sullivan
South High School and garnered All-Conference, All-District, and
All-Region honors. He also finished top three in the conference and
top five in the region.
The Anderson Invitational will be the first of four events for the
Pioneers this fall. TC will host the Tusculum Fall Classic Sept.
28-29 at Link Hills Country Club. The Pioneers finish out the fall
season on the road, at the Queens University of Charlotte
Invitational (Oct. 12-13), before completing the fall schedule in
Tazewell, Tenn. taking part in the Lincoln Memorial University
Invitational (Oct. 19-20).
