MEN'S GOLF WINS BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAIN CHALLENGE

Chase Carroll ETOWAH, N.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team posted a one-day total of 306 to win the inaugural Blue Ridge Mountain Challenge, Saturday afternoon at the Etowah Valley Country Club.

Tusculum edged No. 23 Newberry College and host Brevard College by one shot, while Catawba College finished fourth with 315.

Senior Chase Carroll led the Pioneers with his three-over par 75 to tie for fourth place. Houston White finished seventh with 76, while Darren Christie tied for 12th. Lawson George fired a 78, while Will Loggins carded 80. Jake Scheffers, playing as an individual competitor, posted 83.

The trio of Grant Carnie (Brevard), Thomas Rennie (Brevard) and John O'Planick (Catawba) each posted rounds of 73 to tie for first place.

Etowah Country Club will be the site of next month's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Championship (Apr. 20-21).
