PIONEERS HOST TUSCULUM MEN'S GOLF INVITATIONAL THIS WEEKEND


GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College will host 16 collegiate men's golf teams at the 15th annual Tusculum Invitational this weekend at Link Hills Country Club.

The first round begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday morning, followed by Sunday's final round, which is slated to tee off at 8 a.m. on the 6,733-yard, par 71 lay out.

The Pioneers have won this event four times, including the most recent in 2006 when Tusculum shot a tournament record 579 over the two-day event. Grand Valley State returns as the defending champion. The Lakers also won the TC Invitational in 2002. Carson-Newman will also be competing in this year's event having won the Tusculum Invitational in 1996 and 2000. Walters State College also returns as the Senators won the inaugural event in 1994.

Tusculum junior Darren Christie is the defending medalist champion. He carded back-to-back rounds of 70-70=140 (-2) to tie the 36-hole record for the tournament.

Also included in this year's field are: South Atlantic Conference members Brevard, Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill and Newberry. Other NCAA Division II schools include: Georgia Southwestern, Limestone and Tiffin. Other participants include Virginia-Wise, Belmont, Shorter, USC Lancaster, Spartanburg Methodist and Tri-County Tech.

Admission to the 36-hole tournament is free and open to the public.
