CARROLL FINISHES FIFTH, TUSCULUM SEVENTH AT OUTBACK INVITATIONAL

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Six student-athletes have committed to attend Tusculum College and play soccer for the Pioneers announced TC Women's coach Mike Joy on Wednesday. This year's recruiting class has a strong local flavor with four of the six commitments coming from Greeneville High School.

Lucy Binning, a 5-3 midfielder/defender from Boone, N.C., has earned NCSCA All-Region honors the last two seasons, including last year as she led Watauga High School with 11 assists. She also posted three goals to give her 17 total points as the WHS posted a 12-8-4 record, including 8-2-2 in the Northwestern 4-A Conference. During her prep career, Binning has helped the Pioneers to three straight trips to the State playoffs for Coach Doug Kidd. She has served as team captain the last two years and will serve in that same role in her senior campaign this season.

Claire Duncan, a 5-6 midfielder, is one of the Greeneville quartet in this year's recruiting class. Duncan was the 2007 Inter-Mountain Athletic Conference (IMAC) Player of the Year as she tallied 11 goals and nine assists for the Greene Devils in 2007. She earned a spot on the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Class AAA All-State Team and was also tabbed Region 1-AAA Co-Defensive Player of the Year as Greeneville won the District 2-AAA title, while finishing as region runner-up. During her stellar prep career, Duncan has scored 61 goals, along with 42 assists. She is four-time All-District and All-Region selection and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Jessica Lee, a 5-7 defender from Virginia Beach, Va., earned All-District accolades the last two years at Great Bridge High School. She was also a two-time All-State Honorable Mention selection, while lettering in cross country, basketball, track and soccer. Lee is an All-American Scholar Award winner and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Patience Leonard, a 5-8 midfielder/defender from Greeneville, earned All-District and All-Region honors for GHS head coach and Tusculum Hall of Famer John Eiskamp. In 2007, Leonard earned a spot on the All-State squad while serving as team captain. In 2005, she recorded 25 goals and two assists for the Greene Devils. In her prep debut campaign, she tallied 18 goals and four helpers and was named her team's Offensive Most Valuable Player. She is a 2006 AIM Scholar and is a Tennessee Scholar honoree.

Devan McIntyre, a 5-5 midfielder from Greeneville, has earned All-Conference and All-Region honors at GHS the last three years on the soccer pitch and is currently in her final prep basketball season. She has excelled on the hardwood as well, earning All-District honors last season as the Greene Devils advanced to the State playoffs. McIntyre is a member of the National Honor Society and earned the Virtue Award from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Michelle Meade, a 5-5 midfielder from Greeneville, rounds out this year's recruiting class. During her prep career, she has helped Greeneville to four IMAC championships and three District crowns. Meade has earned All-District accolades three times and All-Region honors twice.

Duncan, Leonard, McIntyre and Meade have also played club soccer for the Greeneville Galaxy for Coach Walter Graham.

"I'm very pleased to announce our signing class for 2008-09," said Joy. I feel confident we were able to address most of the needs we have for this upcoming season. "We have signed some very talented soccer players that I believe will help us to continue to stay nationally competitive."

Tusculum finished the 2007 season with a 15-7 overall record, while advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament Sweet 16. The Pioneers were making their third consecutive NCAA postseason appearance and fourth in the last five years.
