AUSTIN, Texas --- Tusculum University guard Josiah Morris has been named to the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Academic All-District® 3 first team as selected by the College Sports Communicators.
The 2023-2024 Academic All-District® Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the basketball court and in the classroom.
District 3 is comprised of colleges and universities representing the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher, must be at least a sophomore and played in 90 percent of their team's games or start in 67 percent of their team's contests.
Morris, a 6-6, 210-pound native of Mt. Washington, Kentucky, has a 3.52 GPA while majoring in sports science. He is a member of the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll and the Dean's List.
Morris played in all 27 games this season including 26 in the starting line-up. He was Tusculum's top three-point shooter, averaging 2.56 three-point field goals made per game (8th in SAC) and shot 39 percent from three-point territory (9th in SAC). He finished third on the roster averaging 9.8 points per game as he totaled 265 points on the season. Morris scored in double figures on 13 occasions this season.
The Pioneers finished the year with 14-13 record including 12-8 in conference play to finish fifth in the SAC standings and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the league championship tournament.
The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in April.
The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2023-2024 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
