Carter named All-South Atlantic Conference
ROCK HILL, S.C. ---

Tusculum College senior guard Darius Carter has been voted second-team All-South Atlantic Conference in men's basketball, the league office announced Thursday morning.

Carter ranked ninth in the SAC in scoring with a team-best 17.5 points per game and added 3.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest as the Pioneers finished 14-15 overall and in eighth place in the conference with a 9-13 record under fifth-year head coach Michael Jones.

The Cascade, Virginia native reached double figures 27 times in 29 games this season, including 10 games with 20 or more points. He scored a season-high 30 points against Mars Hill on Jan. 13, and had 29 points in a 96-81 win over Brevard on Nov. 24. Carter also had a season-high nine rebounds against Lincoln Memorial on Jan. 21 and at Mars Hill in a 91-82 victory on Feb. 27.

Carter became the 23rd player in program history to reach 1,000 career points against Carson-Newman on Jan. 6. He finished his Tusculum career with 1,338 points (10th all-time) and as the program's career leader in free throws made (458) and attempted (592). Carter is 10th all-time in free-throw percentage at 77.4 percent, while his 135 career steals are the fifth-most in program history and his 162 made free throws this season are tied for the fourth-most in a single season in school history.

Carter was joined on the second team by Jalen Steele of Lincoln Memorial, Will Perry of Lenoir-Rhyne, Isiah Cureton of Wingate, Sawyer Williams on Carson-Newman and Jameel Taylor of Catawba. The SAC Player of the Year was Lenoir-Rhyne's Keenan Palmore, who led the conference in scoring (22.0 ppg), rebounding (9.6 rpg) and assists (6.9 apg), while Randall Shaw of Anderson was honored as Rookie of the Year. Lincoln Memorial's Josh Schertz was named Coach of the Year as his Railsplitters became the first team to go undefeated in the SAC at 22-0.

In addition to the All-Conference selections, the league recognized its annual statistical champions, including Tusculum junior guard Kendall Patterson who had the best assist-to-turnover ratio in the conference at 2.21. Patterson had 106 assists to 48 turnovers during the regular season, finishing the year fifth in the conference in assists per game at 3.8.
