Tusculum drops exhibition basketball game at ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. --- Rashawn Rembert scored a game-high 22 points and two other ETSU players posted double-double performances, as the Buccaneers defeated Tusculum College 90-52 Monday night at Freedom Hall. Monday's counts as an exhibition game for the Pioneers but counts for ETSU.

ETSU's Lester Wilson posted 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Devin Harris came off the bench with 11 points and 11 boards. Jalen Riley added 17 points and five assists, while Petey McClain accounted for nine markers and 11 boards.

Tusculum junior guard Javon Price led the visitors with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, while sophomore center Chase Mounce tallied 11 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

The Bucs (11-6) sprinted out of the gates, building a lead of 20 points at 34-14 with seven minutes left before halftime. With ETSU leading 38-20 with four minutes to go in the half, Tusculum closed out the period with a 9-4 run to trail 42-29 at the intermission. During the run, Price nailed a three-pointer, while sophomore guard Zach Davis added a bucket in the final minute to trim the deficit.

After the break, Tusculum stayed within 14 points for the first four minutes of the second half, but a 15-3 spurt by the Bucs increased the cushion to 25 points at 65-40 and ETSU never looked back.

ETSU shot 49 percent from the floor, out-rebounded the Pioneers 50-34, and held Tusculum to 27 percent shooting for the game.

Davis finished the night with eight points and five rebounds, while senior guard Mason Fox contributed six points and six assists.

The Pioneers (1-14) will close out its season-long four-game road swing on Wednesday when they travel to arch rival Carson-Newman University for an 8 p.m. South Atlantic Conference contest at Holt Fieldhouse in Jefferson City.
