GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Thomas Anderson canned a three-pointer at the buzzer to lead Mars Hill University to a thrilling 90-87 South Atlantic Conference road win at Tusculum College Wednesday night at Pioneer Arena.

Devonte Williams paced the Lions (6-18, 4-15 SAC) with his triple-double of 23 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Williams, the SAC leader in assists, provided the game-winning helper on Anderson's trifecta.

Tusculum fought back from at 53-42 deficit at halftime and used an 8-2 run late in the game as TC took its first lead of the second half following a fast-break lay-up by Neal Spinks with 40 seconds remaining to give the Pioneers an 87-85 advantage.

MHU came up with a pair of critical offensive rebounds on its next possession. The Lions called a timeout and Williams tied with his floating jumper to even the score at 87-87 with 22.3 seconds to go.

TC's Darius Carter drove to the basket with nine seconds left as his shot went high off the glass. TC's Addison Flynn came up with the rebound but his foot was out of bounds with 5.8 seconds left.

Mars Hill called a timeout to set up the play as Williams found Anderson at the top of the key as he buried the 22-foot jumper as time expired as the Lions avenge last month's 96-87 Tusculum victory at Mars Hill. Wednesday was also the Lions first win in Greeneville since 2009.

Carter led all scorers with his career-high 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting, including a pair of three-pointers and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.

TC redshirt freshman Chase Mounce posted his second consecutive double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Flynn and Spinks finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.

Carter Wright was the top scorer for the Lions with his 27 points, while Isaiah Cuthbertson finished with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while also contributing seven rebounds.

In the opening half, Tusculum jumped out to its largest lead of the night at 31-22 following a dunk by Spinks at the 9:26 mark.

With TC leading 35-31 with 6:52 remaining before halftime, Mars Hill closed out the period with a 22-7 run, including five straight points to end the half from Williams as MHU led by 11.

Wright finished with 23 points at the break for Mars Hill, while Mounce led the charge for TC with his 19 markers and nine rebounds at the intermission.

Tusculum out-rebounded Mars Hill by a 45-41 margin, including 20-16 on the offensive boards.

But one of the differences in the game came at the charity stripe as Mars Hill shot 17-of-25 from the free throw line, while TC struggled at the line, going 15-of-26 (57.7%).

Flynn added six assists, while Mason Fox posted four helpers to go along with his four rebounds and two points. Spinks also added nine rebounds, while Matt Shown contributed five points and seven boards.

Tusculum is back at home on Saturday for a 4 p.m. contest against league foe Lenoir-Rhyne University.
