--- The Tusculum duo of Addison Flynn and Jalen Walker scored 16 points each as the Pioneers upset arch-rival Carson-Newman 71-64 Wednesday night in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action from Pioneer Arena.

Tusculum (2-15, 1-10 SAC) earns its first league win of the year, while splitting the season series with the Eagles (10-5, 7-4 SAC). TC limited Carson-Newman to its third lowest point tally this season, while tying a school single-game record committing only five turnovers in the game, including just two miscues in the second half.

TC's Keith Jumper added 13 points and a game-high nine rebounds, while 2012-13 SAC Player of the Year Antoine Davis posted 20 markers and seven rebounds for the Eagles. Ish Sanders, C-N's second leading scorer, was held scoreless in the first half and was limited to only seven points in the game (19.3 ppg average entering the game-7th in SAC).

Trailing 55-54 with 3:31 left in the game, Tusculum used an 8-0 run to take its largest lead of the night at 62-55 with 1:15 remaining. The run included a steal and a three-pointer by Darius Carter and was later capped off by Jumper's three-point play.

The Eagles answered with a three-point play from Sawyer Williams 11 seconds later to trim the TC lead back to four (62-58).

Walker was fouled with 51.6 seconds remaining as he buried a pair of free throws to put Tusculum up 64-58.

C-N's Jared Johnson knocked down a running jumper in the paint with 45.5 seconds to go as the Eagles trailed 64-60.

Walker was fouled again as he made one of two from the stripe for a five-point lead (65-60) with 42 seconds left. Johnson would go to the lane again, but was fouled on the shot attempt. He would make one of his two charity tosses with 35.9 seconds on the clock.

Jumper was fouled moments later for Tusculum as he made the second of two as TC led 66-61 with 33.8 ticks left. Johnson was fouled again for C-N, but he could make only one of his two free throws to keep it a two possession contest (66-62) with 27.4 seconds left.

The Eagles sent Walker to the line, making both his free throw shots to give TC a 68-62 advantage with 23.3 seconds remaining.

C-N put up a barrage of shots on its next trip up the floor before Davis got a tip-in with 12 seconds left to trim the TC lead to 68-64. But Flynn would put the game away with his two free throws with 10.4 seconds left to seal the victory for the Pioneers.

Tusculum raced out to a 9-4 lead to start the game, sparked by a Flynn three-pointer. C-N scored 10 unanswered points, including a pair of Davis three-pointers as the visitors led 14-9 with 12:31 left in the half. TC cut the deficit to 14-12 following a Flynn trey, but C-N responded with a 9-2 spurt to take its largest lead of the game at 23-14 on a Carson Brooks' dunk.

Tusculum maintained its distance of the Eagles as the Pioneers connected on its last four field goal attempts of the half, including a three-pointer by Walker, and Flynn's trey from the right corner at the buzzer to tie the game at 31-31 at the intermission.

Carson-Newman went on a 6-0 run early in the second period to take a 37-33 lead following a Brooks' layup with 15:29 left. The Eagles would take only four shots over the next eight minutes, but would go to the free throw line 10 times and make eight of their shots during that span.

During C-N's shooting drought, TC's Carter made three free throws to put the Pioneers up 41-37 with 13:15 left. Jumper scored on a spinning layup and later made one of two free throws for a 47-45 lead with 7:24 remaining.

The Eagles got out of their shooting slump when Sanders drained his only three-pointer of the contest, but it would give the visitors the lead again at 48-47 with seven minutes left. The lead would exchange hands two more times before Tusculum's 8-0 run that eventually decided the game.

Carson-Newman shot 51 percent from the floor, while limiting the Pioneers to just 35 percent shooting on the night. But Tusculum followed last Saturday's dismal 7-of-19 (36.8%) free throw shooting performance at Wingate, by going 24-of-35 at the stripe, including 74 percent (20-of-27) in the second half.

Tusculum won the rebound battle by a 36-35 margin, including 13-4 on the offensive boards.

Flynn finished the game shooting 4-of-8 from three-point territory and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Walker dished out four assists and did not commit a turnover for a second straight game. Walker shot 4-of-7 from the floor, including a pair of treys and fired 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. Carter posted a gutty performance with nine points in 23 minutes while missing his first start of the season due to a stomach virus. He shot 4-of-5 from the foul line, while handing out a pair of assists and coming up with two steals. Spinks added eight points off the bench, while redshirt freshman Chase Mounce accounted for six points and five boards.

Brooks finished with 11 points for the Eagles, while teammate Sawyer Williams added 12 markers in the loss.

Tusculum snaps a 13-game losing streak dating back to last November for the longest winless drought in the modern era of the program.

The Pioneers are back on the road for its next two games, beginning with Saturday's 4 p.m. contest at conference newcomer Coker.
