Tusculum to face top-seed LMU in SAC Men's Basketball Tournament quarterfinal Wednesday

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum Pioneers will be the No. 8 seed in this year's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament and will face top-seed Lincoln Memorial Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal round contest at Tex Turner Arena in Harrogate, Tenn.

This will mark the second straight season Tusculum and LMU have met in the opening round and the third year in a row in the SAC Tournament (2011 semifinals).

Tusculum (6-20) will be looking to snap a four-game losing streak and a seven-game road losing skid.

LMU (22-4) captured its second SAC regular-season title in the last three years and enters the tournament on a six-game winning streak and is currently listed 12th in NCAA Division II and is the top-ranked program in the latest DII Southeast Regional rankings.

No. 2 seed Anderson will host No. 7 seed Catawba in Wednesday's quarterfinals, while third-seeded Wingate - last year's SAC Tournament champions - will take on No. 6 seed Newberry. Carson-Newman is the bracket's No. 4 seed, and will play host to fifth-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday.

Following the quarterfinal round, the SAC Championship semifinals and finals will take place on March 9 and 10 at Timmons Arena in Greenville, S.C.

Tusculum is 9-12 all-time in the SAC Tournament, including last year's 72-58 quarterfinal setback to the Railsplitters in Harrogate.

Both Tusculum and LMU will be vying for its second SAC Tournament title. The Pioneers won the championship in 2005, while the Railsplitters captured the 2011 championship. As head coach at Brevard, Tusculum head coach Michael Jones led the Tornados to the 2010 SAC Tournament championship.
