Pioneers eighth in the nation in free throw percentage

INDIANAPOLIS --- The Tusculum College men's basketball team is eighth in the country in free throw percentage according to this week's NCAA Division II statistics.

The Pioneers (11-15, 8-8 SAC) lead the South Atlantic Conference shooting 78.1 percent from the foul line, which is on pace to be a new school single-season record and is currently the second-best in league history. Tusculum has shot over 73 percent from the charity stripe in 10 consecutive contests entering Wednesday's conference game at Lenoir-Rhyne.

The Pioneers are also limiting the opposition to just 64.7 points per game, which is the top scoring defense in the SAC and 31st in the nation. TC is also posting a .475 field goal percentage, which is second in the league and 47th in the land.

Senior forward Rob Troutman (Mt. Washington, Ky.) leads the SAC individually with his .853 free throw percentage, which is also 54th in the country. Junior guard Justin Steigerwald (Cincinnati, Ohio) is second in the conference in assists per game, dishing out 4.6 helpers per outing (62nd in NCAA II).
