Kyle Moore named SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Kyle Moore has been named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week announced league officials Monday. Moore shares this week's honor with D.J. Blackmon of Lenoir-Rhyne University.

Moore has been named SAC Player of the Week three times this season and on eight occasions for his three-year Tusculum career.

Moore, a 6-3, 195-pound senior guard from Gainesville, Fla., averaged 36.5 points per game, while leading the Pioneers to a pair of conference wins last week.

Moore poured in 35 points in Tusculum's 87-68 win over Wingate. The Buchholz High School graduate went 9-of-19 from the floor, including 6-of-9 from three-point territory. The 2009 SAC Player of the Year shot 11-of-12 from the free throw line. His lone miss at the free throw line ended a string of 33 consecutive made free throws.

Moore, a 2009 All-American, followed with a 39-point effort at Carson-Newman as the Pioneers posted its largest win (26 points) over their in-state rival in school history. Moore shot 12-of-18 from the field with three 3-pointers and a perfect 12-of-12 from the foul line. In the second half, he tallied 28 points, going 10-of-11 from the floor in the final 20 minutes.

On the week, Moore shot 56.8 percent from the field (21-of-37), including 9-of-16 from three-point territory. He also made 23-of-24 from the free throw line for 95.8 percent. Moore also becomes the first player in modern school history to score 30 points in three straight games. He has scored 30 or more points on nine occasions this year and 14 times in his TC career.

The two-time All-SAC honoree leads the South Atlantic Conference in scoring, averaging 24.7 points per game, including 35 ppg in his last three outings. Moore has accounted for 1,712 points in a Tusculum uniform, which is fourth on the Pioneer scoring list and seventh-most in SAC history.

Tusculum (14-10, 8-5 SAC) is currently in a three-way tie for third place in the conference and is only a half game out of first. The Pioneers will host Newberry College on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. Tusculum has won six of its last eight contests.
