AUGUSTA, Ga. --- Game times have been set for the 2009
NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, hosted by Augusta State
University this weekend in Augusta, Ga. Tusculum College, the No. 8
seed in this year's regional, will face top-seeded Augusta State at
6 p.m., this Saturday night at the Christenberry Fieldhouse.
Tusculum will be making its second NCAA postseason appearance in
school history. The Pioneers last advance to the NCAA Tournament in
2005, when TC was the eighth-seed in the South Atlantic Regional in
Bowie, Md. The Pioneers upset bid of top-ranked Bowie State
University fell short in a 91-88 overtime decision.
Saturday's contest will be the seventh recorded meeting between TC
and the Jaguars. Tusculum leads the all-time series 4-2. Tusculum
and ASU last met in the 2005-06 campaign as the two squads were
victorious on their respective home courts.
Tusculum (20-10) is enjoying one of its best seasons in school
history. Tusculum has won 12 of its last 16 games, finishing
runner-up in last weekend's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference
Tournament. The Pioneers were edged by Catawba College, 63-61.
Tusculum has also recorded the program's first 20-win season as a
NCAA II member and first since 1992-93 (22-11).
Augusta State (26-4) won last weekend's Peach Belt Conference
Tournament and is currently ranked fifth in the nation.
The winner of the Tusculum/ASU game will face either Georgia
College & State University or Barton College.
Tickets for the Southeast Regional are $10 per session. The game
will be available via webcast for free through Augusta State and
the Peach Belt Conference. Tickets will also be available in
