WINGATE MEN OUTLASTS TUSCULUM 65-58

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- C.J. Hillyer pitched six innings of one-hit shutout baseball to lead the No. 18 Tusculum Pioneers to a weekend sweep of Davis and Elkins with Sunday's 9-2 victory at Pioneer Park.

Tusculum plated runs in each of the first four innings, including a three-run third frame as the Pioneers improve to 6-0 and are off to their best start of a season since 1990.

TC recorded 10 hits on the day, including two hits each by Ricky Feliz, Maikol Gonzalez, Carlos Rivera.

Hillyer walked one and struck out five to improve his record to 2-0 on the year.

Leading 2-0 in the third inning, Gonzalez and Rivera led off with back-to-back doubles. Later in the frame, Mark Deans came through with a two-out double. TC made it 7-0 in the fourth inning thanks to Christian Rosa's two-out, two-run triple.

The Senators' Tyler Hern broke up the shutout in the eighth inning when he singled up the middle, scoring Matt Coker from second base. Hern, Craig Daft, Evan Gazza, Blake Rogers and Steve Harvey accounted for one hit each for the visitors.

Tusculum will be in action on Wednesday at USC Upstate.
