SLAM DUNK READING PROGRAM STUDENTS TO BE HONORED AT TUSCULUM BASKETBALL GAMES

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Selected students participating in the "Slam Dunk Reading" program at Hal Henard Elementary School will be recognized in between games at this Monday's South Atlantic Conference basketball doubleheader between Tusculum College and Carson-Newman College, held at Pioneer Arena on the Tusculum campus.

The Tusculum men and Women's basketball teams helped kickoff the "Slam Dunk Reading" program in December, by emphasizing to the students the importance of reading.

The elementary school students had to read accelerated books and then take a computerized test. If they passed the test, students qualified for points that earn them a party, tickets to the Tusculum/Carson-Newman game and other awards.

Those students who passed the program will be introduced prior to the start of Monday's men's game and will be presented certificates by members of both Tusculum basketball teams. The Women's game tips off at 6 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m.

Tusculum College, located in Greeneville, Tenn., is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, USA and is a NCAA Division II member of the South Atlantic Conference which is comprised of nine colleges and universities in Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
