Tusculum heads to AVCA national championship

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. --- The Tusculum University men's beach volleyball team will be competing this weekend at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach National Championships. The event will be held this Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 4-5) at The John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Alabama.

The competition will consist of a two-day, team Main Draw Tournament, of five pairs in a duals format. The Main Draw is made up of round-robin pool play and a single elimination bracket for first and third place. First from pool play will play second from pool play for the championship title, while the third and fourth place teams will vie for bronze. The fifth place team from pool is eliminated.

Head coach Bryan Buckius has announced his lineup for the historical event. The top pair will be the brothers Svendsen (Adam and Noa). Next is Thiago Da Silva and Shane O'Neal. At the No. 3 flight are Kevin Blankenship and Joel Dubinsky. The duo of Morgan Makovec and Colby Landry are fourth, while Tristan Blake and Jabes de la Cruz round out the roster. Corey Long and Arthur Della Nina are tabbed as the alternate sixth pairing.

Tusculum was chosen to represent the Central Zone, as West and East bids were Westcliff and Webber International, respectively. Two at-large bids were handed to Stevenson and Lincoln Memorial to round out the five teams.

On Saturday, the Pioneers are scheduled to play Webber at 11 a.m., followed by Stevenson at 5 p.m. TU wraps up pool play with Westcliff at 10 a.m. and Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The battle for bronze is set for 3 p.m. with the gold medal match an hour later.

Through an expansion of the AVCA's partnership with Volleyball World, live coverage of this weekend's marquee matches will be available to everyone complimentary. On Saturday and Sunday, VBTV will broadcast center-court matches from the men's team championship.
