Pioneers host inaugural men's beach volleyball tournament

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's beach volleyball team hosted its first weekend tournament in Greeneville, bringing in Erskine, Stevenson, and Webber International.

Tusculum (0-4) next takes the sand in two weeks (Nov. 3-5) at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships in Huntsville, Alabama. The event will also feature Stevenson, Webber International, and Westcliff.

Team Competition
The team competitions took place on Saturday (Oct. 21) at the TU Beach Complex. The Pioneers fell in all three matches: Erskine (3-2), Stevenson (4-1), and Webber (4-1).

Tristan Blake and Deklan Wingo won in all three showings, while Thiago Da Silva and Shane O'Neal added the extra win over the Flying Fleet.

Pairs Competition
Kevin Blankenship and Joel Dubinsky were the top Pioneer finishers, placing behind the co-champions, both from Stevenson.

The duo received a first round bye into the top-16 (out of 21), opening with a win over fellow TU teammates Corey Long and Noa Svendsen: 21-8, 21-15.

In the round of eight, Blankenship and Dubinsky took down a pair from Stevenson by scores of 21-14. 21-16.

Another Mustang pairing ended the Tusculum day in the semifinals: 21-14, 21-17.
