ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University's Dee Alford has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week announced league officials Monday.

Alford, a senior cornerback from Griffin, Georgia, recorded six tackles including one for loss and posted an interception to set up Tusculum's first touchdown in TU's 21-19 league win at UVa-Wise.  His interception was the second of the year and seventh of his career which is tied for sixth in school history.

Alford, a two-time All-SAC pick in the defensive secondary, also had six punt returns for 92 yards, including a career-best 52-yarder.

Tusculum (2-5) returns to action this weekend when the Pioneers host UNC Pembroke (3-4) for a 1:30 p.m. non-conference game.  Saturday's game begins a three-game home-stand for the Black & Orange.
