Houston, Thomas named to Don Hansen All-America Football Team

PITTSBURG, Kan. --- Tusculum College's Justin Houston and Cameron Thomas have been named to the 2015 Don Hansen Football Gazette NCAA Division II All-America Team.

The Tusculum duo garnered honorable mention recognition as they were two of 13 South Atlantic Conference student-athletes selected to the Hansen All-America squad.

Houston, a 5-8, 170-pound senior receiver from Cleveland, Tennessee, earns a spot on the Hansen All-America team for a second time in his storied career. He earned honorable mention honors during the 2013 campaign.

This past fall, he was also named to the Hanson All-Region first team, Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association All-Region Team and the USA College Football All-America Team.

Houston led the SAC in receptions for a third consecutive year, averaging 9.6 catches per game, which are ranked third nationally. He finished the year with 106 receptions for 799 yards and tied a school single-season record with nine touchdowns. His 106 catches are the second-most in TC history, four shy of the school record 110 grabs he made in his 2013 campaign.

Houston, a three-time All-SAC standout, finished his career with a school and league record 322 receptions, which are the fourth-most in NCAA Division II history. Houston also finished with a school-record 3,182 receiving yards, which are sixth in the SAC record book. He is also the program's all-time leader for kickoff returns (68) and all-purpose yardage (4,622). Houston also recorded 13 games with 100 or more receiving yards, the most in program history.

Thomas, a 6-0, 195-pound junior cornerback from Nicholasville, Kentucky becomes only the third defensive back to garner All-America recognition, joining Tusculum and SAC Hall of Famer Ricardo Colclough (2003) and Ra'Shun Judge (2004).

Thomas led the league with this 15 passes defended (23rd in NCAA II), including a league-best five interceptions (23rd in NCAA II). The 2015 All-Region and All-SAC honoree tallied 52 tackles, including three for loss and forced a fumble.

Thomas opened the season with an interception and three pass break-ups at Virginia-Wise. He followed with eight tackles and an interception against Virginia State and made nine tackles with two behind the line of scrimmage against 23rd-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne. In TC's road game at North Greenville, Thomas returned an interception for a 54-yard touchdown. He later added nine tackles at Limestone and seven more against Catawba.

For his career, Thomas has amassed 23 passes defended, which are sixth in the TC record book. His eight career interceptions are the third-most by a Pioneer.

The Don Hansen All-America team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, a native of Brookfield, Illinois, started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
