Tusculum vs. Carson-Newman Blood Bowl Drive this week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Fans of the Tusculum Pioneers and Carson-Newman Eagles can support their team while aiding the East Tennessee Medic Regional Blood Center by participating in the 12th Annual Blood Drive Bowl this week.

The event is part of the festivities leading up to Saturday's homcoming football game between the Pioneers and Eagles, which kicks off at 2:30 p.m. from Pioneer Field in Greeneville. There will be several opportunities to donate blood.

Tusculum has been the top donor in seven of the previous 11 drives, including five of the last six.

On Wednesday (Oct. 15), Tusculum students, faculty, staff and fans may donate on the Greeneville campus at the Niswonger Student Commons from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. The Medic Mobile unit will be on campus from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Stations will also be set up inside the Niswonger Student Commons from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. that day.

Blood donations will also be taken at the following locations: Tuesday (Oct. 14) at the Tusculum College Knoxville campus from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m.; Thursday (Oct. 16) at the Tusculum College - Morristown site (420 West Morris Blvd.) from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Blood donations may also be given during the week at the MEDIC Regional Blood Center in Knoxville (1601 Ailor Ave.) during the following hours: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Please let the screener know your donation should count towards Tusculum College.

All donors will receive a t-shirt and coupons for various items from Petro, Texas Roadhouse and Dairy Queen.

Donors should bring a valid driver's license or other official photo ID in order to give blood. Medical prescreening and a free cholesterol test (no fasting necessary) will be provided at the sites. One donation a year exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood supplier processing fees at any U.S. hospital.

The winning school will be announced at halftime of Saturday's homecoming football game at Pioneer Field. Tusculum leads the series 7-4. The Pioneers won the inaugural title in 2003 and again in 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Carson-Newman has captured bragging rights four times (2004, 2006, 2007, 2013).
