Houston earns Capital One Academic All-District football honors

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- Tusculum College receiver Justin Houston has been named to the 2013 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District Football Super Region 2 Team, as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Houston, a sophomore from Cleveland, Tenn., earns this honor for the first time in his career and advances to the Academic All-America® ballot, which will be announced next month.

The physical education major is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Houston has emerged as one of the top receivers in the country and is listed amongst the national leaders in receptions, receiving yards and all-purpose yards.

The Bradley Central High School graduate is second in the country in receptions per game, averaging 10.9 catches per contest. In 2013, Houston has made 87 receptions, which are fourth most in a season in TC history and just nine off the record 96 catches set by Deonte Gist in 2010.

Houston leads the SAC in receiving yards per game, averaging 124.1 yards per contest, which are seventh in NCAA II. He is also tops in the league averaging 179.5 all-purpose yards per game, which are 13th in the nation. Against Wingate this season, he totaled a career-best 264 all-purpose yards, while scoring three touchdowns. One of those scores came on a 99-yard kickoff return, the longest in Tusculum history.

In just two seasons, he has totaled 127 receptions for 1,386 yards in his collegiate career.

Members of the Capital One Academic All-District Super Region 2 Team are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which includes all colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Gulf South Conference, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and football independents North Greenville University, Florida Tech and UNC Pembroke.
