Littlejohn named to Tusculum football coaching staff

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Former Tusculum College All-Region standout Jarvis Littlejohn will be returning to his alma mater and serve as an assistant football coach according to TC head coach and athletic director Frankie DeBusk.

Littlejohn, who starred on the Tusculum gridiron from 2005-08, will serve as running backs coach for the Pioneers. He replaces assistant coach Caleb Slover, who stepped down after seven seasons, to accept the head coach position at Cocke County High School in Newport, Tenn.

The 2008 Tusculum graduate returns to the Greeneville campus after serving the last four years on the coaching staff at Gaffney (S.C.) High School. While at Gaffney, he helped the Indians to a 45-12 record while capturing the 2012 state championship and a pair of region titles (2011 & 2012).

While at Gaffney, he served as the freshman basketball coach for four years, leading the program to 15 wins per season, including a perfect 20-0 record in 2009.

Prior to Gaffney, he served a graduate assistant football coach at Delta State University, under head coach and former TC defensive coordinator Ron Roberts. While at the Cleveland, Miss. school, he assisted with the linebackers along with other duties with the program.

During his playing career at Tusculum, he earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors twice (2007, 2008) and was a consensus All-Region linebacker in his senior campaign (2008) where he finished with 105 tackles, which are the third most in school history.

He served as team captain of that 2008 squad that captured the SAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division II Playoffs for the first time in school history. That squad finished the year with a 9-4 record, advanced to the region semifinals and ended the year ranked 16th in the nation. He posted 105 tackles that season (3rd most in Tusculum history), while earning All-Region distinction by Daktronics (CoSIDA) and Don Hansen's Football Gazette.

Littlejohn accounted for 209 career tackles, which are currently 14th in school history. His five career fumble recoveries are fifth in TC history, including his three in 2008 (T4th in TC history).

In 2007, he led the Pioneers in tackles, recording 85 stops, including a career-high 17 against Mars Hill (T7th-most in TC history). The Gaffney, S.C. native posted 11 tackles for loss in 2007, recovered two fumbles and forced a pair. For his 17-tackle effort against Mars Hill, he was named SAC Defensive Player of the Week and D2football.com National Defensive Player of the Week.

While a student-athlete at Tusculum, he also served as a counselor and mentor to disadvantaged youth with the Boys and Girls Club.
